Exodus 20: 12 “Honor your father and your mother, that you may have a long life in the land which the Lord, your God, is giving you.”
Most of us quickly recognize this verse. Yes, it states that we should honor our father and mother. However, my guess is that most do not know the blessing that goes along with this command. God will honor us abundantly by the love we show our parents. He will bless us with a long, and I believe fruitful life.
With the demanding jobs that most of us have, we might think it a burden to see or even keep in touch with our parents. If that is the case, we must question our priorities! If we won’t even take time to be with our parents, then how much time will we give to God? They usually go together.
Lord, help me to love Your commandment to honor my father and mother. Because I seek to honor You, may I love them as You love them. I praise You for giving me the gift of parents and those who have taken care of me in the past and present.
Do you appreciate your parents for their love and guidance? Maybe your parents are no longer alive. Do you reflect on the relationship you had?
