Matthew 5: 6 “Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,/ for they will be satisfied.”
This is one of my favorite verses because it summarizes what our optimal attitude should be concerning God. When praying this verse, I picture myself alone in the desert, without food or water. How hard would I look for the food and water required to sustain my life? Without food I would have no chance to be built up and without water I would wither and die.
The seeking of sustaining food and water should pale in comparison to how much I should long for Jesus. He is the living water and food that gives everlasting life. We must have, for Jesus, that same thirst and hunger that we had in the desert, and then some. How do we measure up?
Jesus, may I hunger and thirst for you, so that my soul is filled at all times. I praise you for being the source of my hunger for you.
Do you thirst for the Lord’s fulfillment or do you turn to other things to be satisfied? When does this happen in your life? Maybe you seek wealth, material objects, or beauty.
